Thursday is Christmas

Whats up family,
We get to talk this Thursday are you all excited. I can´t believe that it is already Christmas. The time is really flying. Well I´m hear in Dolores and it is a lot different than T-bó. The area is a lot nicer there aren´t as many dirt roads and the overall living conditions are a lot better. But i will admit that i do miss T-bó i loved that place i hope that i get the chance to return during my mission for a sector conference or something. But this area is really good. We had a baptism last Friday. It was really cool a little boy named Carlitos was baptized by his father. Carlitos has already read the Book of Mormon with the pictures and he understood everything he is such a smart kid. The ward here is a lot smaller than the ward in T-bó but it seems to me to be a good strong ward. So my new companion is from El Salvador. I am going to learn a lot of spanish this change it is going to be a lot of fun. We get along really well. He speaks english almost fluently. But we usually speak spanish together. He has three changes more than i do. He started his mission last February so he is almost at his year mark. Can you believe that i already have been gone for 6 months that is crazy the time goes by really fast. It isn´t as hot here in Dolores as it was in T-bó i think that there isn´t as much humidity. I still sweat a ton but what can i do about that. Dolores is just a little city and we are the only missionaries here. We are in the zone of Mercedes but we have to travel 40 minutes to go to district meeting every Tuesday. It is a lot different because we are out here on our own. It is weird to think that it is already christmas i swear that yesterday i was shoveling snow and know i am in a country where there is not any snow or mountains. About the phone call i probably will call you at 11 o’clock in the morning. That will be 4 o’clock here and 3 o’clock in chile. I am will call you from my house and give you the number that you need to call me and then you can call me right back. I can´t wait to here everyone´s voice it is going to be really cool. I hope i hope you don´t think i sound funny or anything but i bet i have a little different accent. We had changes last Tuesday and i left T-bó at 6 and i didn´t sleep at all that night. But now i think i am back to normal Wednesday i about feel asleep during a couple of our lessons. I love you all and can´t wait to talk to you on Thursday at 11 o’clock. Espero que ustedes estén animados. Les amo y les hablaré este jueves. Tengan un buen día. Gracias por todo su amor y apoyo.
Chao,
Elder Tate

I love the Guay

Hola Familia,

How is everyone doing? I can’t believe that it is already to the 6 month mark. Time has really gone by fast. So I bet you are a ready to hear the news. I am leaving this area. I am going to miss it so much. I love the people here in this ward and all of the people that I have had the chance to work with. I am pretty nervous and excited to go. I will be with Elder Torres. Yep that is right I will be with a Latino. So I guess that I will learn the language a lot better. I am really excited to that. I will have to speak Spanish all day. With Elder Hansen and Elder McClellan we didn’t speak a lot of Spanish together only when we were talking to others that didn’t speak English. But I am going to Mercedes that is the department I will be serving in the area called Dolores. I have mixed feelings about leaving but I am excited for a change. My comp is going the offices so they are taking out both of us and Elder Gardner is going to train a new missionary here. I think this area is the best area to train I LOVE THIS AREA. About the phone call I don’t know exactly what is going to happen. I will email you on Monday or I will call you but I probably will email. I am 5 hours in front of you so do you want me to call in the morning in Utah or the afternoon? I can probably do either. I am way excited to hear you all. Dad it sounds like you are going to have a busy life for the next few years. That is so cool that you are the Bishop you will do such a good job. I bet the food thing is going to change a lot. That will be so funny to come home and for my “Homecoming” have you up there on the stand with me. I hope that I get as much food from the members in my new area as it did here. We ate everyday almost with members. I will have to learn how to cook if we don’t eat a lot with the members. The food here is really bland it doesn’t have a lot of flavor at all. But I eat what there is. Oh I have to tell you I ate carpincho. It is a huge Guinea pig I tasted really good. I have a request the next package that someone sends could you send some of that camp dry stuff that makes things waterproof again, because the other day it rained and got soaked, if you could sent it that would be awesome.I can’t wait to talk to you all this coming week I love you all. Thanks for all the support and love.

Hola mi Familia

Hello everyone,
How was your week? I had a good week here, it went by really fast I can’t believe that it is already December. Time is really going by fast. This change is pretty much over, this week we have interviews, the next week we have our sector conference, and then the week after that we have changes. This change is going to be one week short because they are sending the Elders home early so they can be home for Christmas. I haven’t decided if I want to leave this area or stay here. I would like to stay but I think that I’m going to leave. One of us is going to leave either Elder McClellan or me. Can you believe that we will talk this month in a couple weeks is all. Is it alright if we do a 3 way call with Elyse so that I can talk to her also? All the Elders that come to our house think that it is funny because on the Calendar that Jodi made for me on the last day of every month it tells me how many days I have left to serve, and I have 565 days left today. We had 2 baptisms this week Antonela and Diego. They are cousins and most of there family is members but they weren’t. They both are 10 years old. We played soccer last Wednesday with all the youth in our ward it was a lot of fun. I’m not that good but I can help the team. We had 6 people in church this yesterday. It was really good because it was raining. It is really funny here because if it is raining the whole city shuts down. Not the whole city but most of it. Everyday that it rains the people make torta fritas o sea scones. They are really good but they are lacking honey butter. I haven’t received any packages yet but I think that they won’t get here until the end of the month. Congratulations Aaron you are done with school I bet that feels nice. Now when you work you are going to actually receive a pay check. I hope that it is a baby boy!Everything is going great here the weather is hot and humid and I’m not the biggest fan of humidity. I’m becoming a Latin I use axe body spray. I love you all and I’m so grateful for all the love and support that you all give to me. Keep working hard and having fun it is the trick to being happy. The scripture of the week is 2Timothey 4 verse 7 if we can all say that at the end of our live we lived a great life. I love you all. Choa Elder Tate
Taylor had to travel to the capital Montevideo to get his carne card and while he was there he took some pics. I think this is a famous statue because I see it in all of the travel sites and in Uruguay books

Pictures from Montevideo

Hola!

Hola mi familia,
¿Cómo están? Esta semana pasada fue más o menos porque no tuvimos un bautismo. Pero vamos a tener 2 o 3 bautismos esta semana que viene. GO UTES. Those pictures are AWESOME I loved them. Did Mark kill an Elk this year to if so see if you can send me the pictures? That was so much fun last year I miss hunting but I LOVE THE MISSION. We had 11 investigators in church yesterday we were so blessed. Out of those 11, 7 of them have baptismal dates is change is going to be great. We are still working with Felicio the problem we have with him is that he works on Sundays in Campaña with bees. They are harvesting the honey right now so he can’t really come to church or at least that is his excuse. Was the game crazy last week? That would have been so fun. I’m glad that they won because almost everyone is a BYU fan. How has it been having Aaron, Jodi, and Zoe living down the street? It is weird to have the whole family living so close. I bet it is a lot of fun. Is Zoe getting big? She is so cute. So this last week went by really fast I swear weeks just fly by in the mission. Can you believe that I have been on my mission for over 5 months? Crazy! My Spanish is getting good. I can have a conversion with anyone now. It is weird to be speaking a different language but way fun. The weather here isn’t too bad but it is getting hot I think that I’m getting used to it. It is hot enough that when we are sitting in lessons I can fell sweat running down my back and we have to sleep with a fan blowing on us. It is good I have some sweet tan lines. I’m so white. I'm going to try to send a package to everyone some time soon what would you all want. They have those Brazilian sandals that Aaron sent home does anyone need some? If not I’ll think of something. I love you all and I hope that everything is going great back home. Keep up the good work and always have fun. Thanks for all the support and love. I love you all. Chao Elder Tate

GO UTES

Hola mi familia,¿Cómo andan?
Everything is going great here in Uruguay. Right now I’m in Montevideo. I have to sign a couple of papers for my Carne de Salud, so that I can become legal. It has been really hot here but right now it is a little chilly. But yes I have been a sweaty Elder, but it isn’t just me all the Elders sweat bad. I think it is really funny because I’m becoming Latin a little. I have a thing of Axe spray deodorant and I use it sometimes, not as much as the Latinos use it. We had a good week this last week. We had a sweet family in church yesterday. We found them last Monday mas o menos and they came to church it was awesome. It is a mom and a grandma and two twins that are 11 years old. It was sweet. Also we had a baptism last Saturday. We baptized a girl named Mikaela. It was a good week. We have some good investigators that are progressing right now. Did you like the pics I sent last week? We were eating at the Carlos Gardel Hotel. It is probably the nicest place to eat in t-bo. It is so good. What happened was I was on divisions with Elder Pierce and our lunch appointment fell through so we decided to go there it was worth it. I had some grilled chicken that was so good. Don’t worry I don’t eat there every week, like once every two months or so. We don’t eat a ton of bread here but defiantly more than we eat in the States. There is bread for every meal but it isn’t like American bread it is more like a cracker thing, they are pretty good. We are going to paint a members house this Thursday morning. Pretty fun huh. We usually try to do service like once a week or so but most weeks we don’t ever have anything to do. The other services that I have done are building a chicken coop and cut weeds. I can’t wait to see real grass again. In front of the houses here all it is is weeds and they use a weed whacker to cut them. They mow their lawn with a weed whacker. It is a talent that they have. That is cool that Aaron and Jodi are going to move up this week. Are they excited? That will be really good for Elyse to have someone in the house with her. I hope that Zoe is ready for the winter. I can’t wait to get my letter next week to see who won the Big Football Game. Go Utes. You have to tell me who wins the high school championships also. I love you all and I’m so grateful for all the love and support that you give me thank you. I always pray for you and I LOVE THE GUAY. Thanks for all you do. Chao su Elder Elder Tate

I love pictures!!!

I love how Taylor can now e-mail pictures to us. Monday's are great as it is because of the e-mails but when I see that he sent pictures the day becomes even better! I love seeing him, he always looks so good. The first picture is of the baptism he had this past Saturday of Silvia and her daughter Milagros. The second picture is of Taylor and my cousin (from my mom's side) Skyler Oswald. I was really excited to finally see a picture of them together. I still can't believe that they are in the same mission. That is awesome. Then the last picture is of Taylor and an elder named Elder Peirce that he was doing divisions with that day. They are eating dinner at a really nice restaurant in T-bo called the Carols Gardel Hotel. I'm glad to see that Taylor is still able to drink my favorite drink coke zero. Good on ya! Taylor is doing absolutely awesome. He is such an example to me and I am so thankful to him. I love ya Tay!

Howdy

Hola, Mi Familia
¿Cómo Están? I hope that everything is going great. This last week went by really fast. We had Sector Conference on Tuesday and it was really good. I saw Elder Oswald it was so fun to see him and talk to him. He has lost a lot of weight. I guess that is what the Guay does to you. I think it is because we don’t eat dinner. We eat breakfast and a huge lunch and then for dinner we have a little snack. I have lost a good amount of weight also. I think I’m almost down to wrestling weight. But don’t worry I eat a ton. I don’t know how I’m loosing weight. Every Thursday we eat with Manuela and she feeds us more food than I have ever eaten EVEY WEEK. I feel like I’m going to vomit after. We had two baptisms this last Saturday, a mom Silvia and her daughter Milagros. It was really awesome to see there conversion. At first they didn’t want anything to do with the church and Silvia was smoking. We were about to drop them but we got them to come to church one time just to see what it was like. They came and it just happened to be the day we had our Stake Conference and we heard a talk by President Erying and Elder Scott. After that we had a baptism and they went to that also and from that day on the wanted to get baptized. It was so awesome.I’m staying here for at least one more change, with Elder McClellan. I am really excited because our area is going really good. Elder McClellan and I get along really good. We have some things in common he played sports in high school. He played Soccer and Volleyball. So I will be here in T- at least one more change. It is kind of fun the week before changes I get a little nervous because you don’t know what is going to happen. But we find out Monday night what is going to happen.Everything is going great down here the weather is HOT. I’m going to be one sweaty elder this summer. I miss the snow and mountains. Other than that I LOVE IT HERE. My Spanish is getting really good. I can communicate enough that I can say anything I just have to describe it and then they usually understand. But I understand almost all of it. I hope you all are having fun and enjoying life. I love you all. Elder Tate

Howdy

Howdy Everyone,
How is everyone doing? Everything is going really well here in T-bo. I can’t believe that it is already November. Time really is flying by. What did you all do for Halloween? Down here they call it día de las Brujas (day of the witches) but they don’t really do anything for it. It was kind of stupid all they do here in T-bo is go to dances which aren’t the most wholesome and they drink mate (ma tay). But everyone drinks mate here it is ridiculous. It looks like grass and all they do is put it in a cup and they have a thermal of hot water and they fill the cup and drink the water through a bombilla (the straw thing that doesn’t let the llerba get through). I’m glad I grew up in the U.S. because we actually have things to do. But the missionary work is going great. We didn’t have a baptism this week because Felicio couldn’t get off of work. But other than that everything is going great. We had 4 investigators in church and we are having a lot of fun. We are working hard and it is paying off. The weather is getting a little hot but not way bad. It is defiantly short sleeve shirt weather but some days it is a little chilly. It cools off at night a lot I have to use the blankets still. Elder Hansen told me that in the summer it is so hot at night that you have a fan on you always and still in the morning your sheets and everything is still soaked. Last summer in Artigas it was 50 degrees Celsius which is like 120 degrees Fahrenheit. You think Las Vegas is hot. Las Vegas is dry heat here it is humid. Hopefully I don’t go there for the summer. I think that I’ll stay here with Elder McClellan for one more change. But who knows. Changes are next week so P-day is on Tuesday so I will be e-mailing then. I hope everything is going great back home. We taught a lesson to a guy yesterday and he was asking where we were from and I said I was from lago salado and he had a picture of salt lake and I saw the mountains and I miss the mountains. There is no such thing as a mountain here in the Guay. Keep up the good work I love you all. I hope you are having a fun time together. Chao. Elder Tate

Go Utes

Hola Everyone,
How are you doing? All is GREAT here in the Guay. I’m glad you all liked the pictures they are pretty fun. I’m going to start sending pictures over email a lot more now that I have the cords. That is pretty funny that we killed chickens last week it was one of those experiences that I will never forget. My comp did ok with it. He killed them and gutted them but he had to talk himself into doing it. It was pretty hard I had to pull as hard as I could to kill it. I think if I were to do it again I would do it like we do with the ducks and just hold the head and spin them that way. It wasn’t the lady that we built a chicken coop for. We helped a man named Miguel Florres he is the secretary in the ward. Last Wednesday he brought over some of the chicken for us to try. It was really good but not all of it was meat some of it was the stomach it was a little different but not bad. I wouldn’t choose to eat it again but if I had to I would do it. I can’t believe how fast this change is going. We are already into the fourth week crazy. Just in case I forget to tell you the last p-day of the change in on Tuesday so if you don’t get an email don’t worry it will come on Tuesday. Olga got baptized yesterday it was awesome. I love having baptisms but usually they are really stressful. Because our ward mission leader doesn’t like to do a whole lot. So it all falls on us. But it was really good. We are going to baptize Felicio (Olga’s husband) this next week it will be great. That is so cool that Donald has seats in it. But not cool at all that you haven’t had a real successful hunt yet. Remember the day after thanksgiving was the best day last year so the ducks should come in pretty soon. Or maybe it is just because I’m not there; I must be the lucky one. That is so cool that Brad can go pro. That is awesome. Is he going to play in the tournaments close to Utah or what? Dad is so lucky he always gets to go do things because of his Job. He got to go back east and do that military thing and he gets to golf at one of the nicest courses in Utah. What a Job he just plays all day. How is the wrestling team going to be this year? You have to have at least one state champ a year Mike and I started the pattern. It is getting pretty hot here. Before it rains it gets really humid and I sweat like none other I’m going to be soaked in sweat all summer long. I don’t have sun screen but they let us wear the straw hats so I’m going to buy one. My arms are as dark as they have ever been and my stomach and back are as white as they have ever been. I have the worst tan line. Some things you could send for Christmas would be maybe a new tie or something because all those ties we bought at that store in South Towne mall are pretty cheap, or a tie buddy one of those things that keep you tie from blowing in the wind. Oh one thing I do need is a new white tie. Because mine turned yellow it wasn’t supposed to get wet. Everything is going great here keep having fun and working hard. Thanks for all you do for me I love you all. Chao su Elder Elder Tate

It is hot here

Howdy everyone,
I have to tell you what Elder McClellan and I did this morning. We killed chickens with a member in the ward and plucked off the feathers and gutted them and everything. It was a different experience but it was so much fun. The worst part about doing it is when we broke the chicken’s neck. All we did was grab the feet and the head and start to pull and the neck would pop and then all the sudden you would feel the head separate from the neck. It felt pretty gross. I guess that it was the closest thing that I will do to hunting since it is that season. I think the charger for robo-duck was in my desk. I don’t know where it would be know. We had a couple of investigators in church this last week. It was kind of hard because we had Stake Conference and it was in the Stake Center so it was a little farther for the people to walk. But after the conference we had a baptism. I baptized Diana Pereira. It went a lot better than the one a week ago. Our area is doing really well it is a lot of fun. The people tell me that I’m becoming a Lamanite. I already am really dark and it isn’t even summer yet. I have the worst tan line it is so funny to look at myself in the mirror. The weather here is getting hot. It is defiantly short sleeve weather. I have to tell you a story. Last Friday we were out clapping houses and we saw this old man sitting in front of his house and we thought lets go talk to him. So we went over there and started up the conversation. He didn’t want anything to do with us and was telling us to leave and so we were just going to ask for a reference to see if he knew anyone that we could stop by and visit. But he tried to just get up and walk away from us. But anyway he started to get up and he just timbered and fell over and his glasses flew off I thought for sure he was hurt. I asked podemos ayudarle and then he started yelling at us and wouldn’t let us help I felt so bad I hope he didn’t break anything. That is so cool that you met Elder Hansen. He was the biggest stud. I think he might have talked me up a little bit. But we had a lot of fun together. I do have some people ask if I am from Chile. I don’t think I talk that good but it is coming along really well. How are the Rams doing in football this year? What is Utah ranked? Or are they ranked? Everything is going really well down here in the Guay. Keep up the good work back home I’m so grateful for everything you do for me. Have fun and work hard it is the trick to life. I love you all. Tengan un buen día chao Elder Tate
P.S. I hope you like the pictures. Also I have heard that it you are going to send a package use the flat rate boxes because they usually never get opens but the others do.

I wish it would snow here!

Hey family,
How is everything? Everything is going great here in T-bo. Maria Rosano was baptized last Saturday. I have to tell you what happened. Hermano Sosa is our ward mission leader and he was going to fill up the font for us at 4 o’clock because the service was at 5 30. Elder McClellan and I were walking back to change into our suits and we see Hermano Sosa and he told us the there wasn’t gas to run the Califon so we weren’t going to have the baptism. But there was gas the whole time he just couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. So we went and turned it on and had the baptism an hour and a half late. It went well it was just a joke trying to get everything done. Yesterday some drunk guy was yelling at us and telling us to go back to our own country it was really funny. The weather here is getting hot. It has rained really hard here yesterday and today but I love preaching in the rain. I liked the package you sent next week I’m going to try to send some pictures. That is awesome that Aaron got a job in Utah, and they are going to be living with Elyse. She will love that. That stinks that Dad and Taylor can’t ever go duck hunting. It is because I’m not there. Is there still a little leak in Donald? Be safe and have a lot of fun on Thursday. What gun is Taylor using? He can use mine if he doesn’t have one. Our investigators are doing ok. We didn’t have a lot in church it was a huge bummer but they will come this next week. My Spanish has gotten a lot better in the last couple of weeks because I talk a lot more and understand almost all of it. I don’t understand every word but I can understand the concepts. I love speaking Spanish. I hope you can go see Elder Hansen’s homecoming. I sent my picture card home with him. Tell him thanks for all he did for me and for his great example. Have a great week and remember I love you all. Elder Tate

Another week from the Guay

Hola mi familia,

How are you all doing this week? Did you like conference? I thought it was so good. I thought the talks were short though. Did you hear the talk by Elder Aidukaitis? That is what our zone conference was like for two and a half hours. I loved President Monson´s talks. So my new compainion is Elder McClellan. He is from southern California. He has been on his mission for one year. His year mark is this Friday. This is his first time being senior comp. We get along really well. We were able to teach some lessons this week with a couple of our investigators. We teach really well with each other. It is fun because now i teach a little bit more with Elder McClellan than i did with Elder Hansen. My spanish is coming along really well. I think by the time i get to call you for Christmas i will be able to speak really good. I talked with Elder Oswald the other week he is doing great. He got transfered to Rivera, so i will see him in a couple of weeks at the zone conference. The zones from Artigas, Rivera, and Tacaurembó all get together for zone conference. We had a baptism last Saturday between the sessions of conference. Daniel was baptized by Elder Hansen it was a great experience. Elder Hansen´s parents were there and i got to meet them. They are great people. I got the package you sent with them thank you. We had a couple of investigators in conference and the said they loved it. Everything is going great here. That stinks that you couldn´t go duck hunting. I think it is funny that Dad brings Taylor and Jess so he can kill 14 more ducks. Do you think Dad will get another dog? I think he should. That is awesome that Aaron is almost graduated from school. I hope he gets the job in Las Vegas or Utah. How is Ali and Taylor doing? The weather is getting hot here. It is crazy to think it is getting cold in Utah. I have heard that it gets up to 50 degrees celcius here. I´m going to sweat to death. I hope Dad´s team does well this week. I love you all thanks for all the support and love. Work hard and have fun. Tengan una buena semana. Les Amo muchisimo.

Chao Elder Tate

Hola Familia

Hey family how are you all doing? We had a really good week here. We had two baptisms Fabio and José last Saturday they went really well. We had 9 investigators in church this week it was so cool to see all of them sitting there and paying attention. It is crazy that it is almost conference, time is flying by. It is changes this week and I can’t believe that Elder Hansen is going home. I’m kind of nervous because I don’t know this mission without him but I’m excited also. I’m not leaving I’ll sill be here in T•bo but I will be with Elder McClellan he comes in tonight at midnight. I don’t know anything about him so I’ll answer those questions next week. P•day during change week is on Tuesday so that is why I’m emailing today. Our investigators are doing really well we should have some good baptisms this coming change. Every time we have a baptism it is the coolest feeling to see them take this step in their lives. Elder Hansen came with Elder Stobbe but they weren’t in the same district in the MTC. I don’t think you spanked me that much Ali is exaggerating. The names of our investigators are Olga, Felicio, Daniel, Blanca, Eduardo, Maria, Carla, and Damian. Those are the ones that are progressing. I can’t believe that it is already time to go get wood. And that Donald is in the backyard again. We had so much fun last year with that. I will miss hunting. That is cool that dad’s golf team took second. How is highland doing this year in football? P•days here we get up and do our studies as if it were a normal day and then we clean the house up and then go to the cyber (email). Sometimes we get together with the other missionaries and do an activity or something we have a lot of fun together. So that waterproof coat isn’t exactly 100% waterproof. It rained yesterday and it kept out 90% of the water. It is starting to get hot here and I get pretty sweaty. Elder Hansen tells me that in the summer it is like 110 or more plus humid I’m going to die. My Spanish is getting pretty good. I still stumble but it is really fun, the people are so nice and help me with it. I did divisions with Elder Pierce and Elder Drishinski last week. Elder Pierce is one of the zone leaders we walked so much that day it was a lot of fun though. With Elder Drishinski he only has two changes in the mission and his Spanish isn’t that good. So we walked around and tried to speak to people it was so much fun. We taught some good lessons and the people understood it was so much fun. Well I better end it for this week I love you all and I’m so grateful for all that you have done for me. Tengan una buena semana. Love your Elder. Chao Elder Tate

What's up?

Hey how is everyone doing back home? Everything is going great here in Uruguay. That is awesome that Taylor and Jess got their hunter safety. Dad will really enjoy that. But tell Taylor that he better practice a lot because i`ll still out shoot him when i get home. Yes we have normal chapels here. There are 4 buildings in Tacuarembò and all of them have their own baptismal font they are just like the ones in the USA. The stake center here in T-bo is probably the nicest building around. There is a taxi system here but we usually don`t us it. We walk everywhere but it isn`t bad. It makes me feel lazy when i think that i would drive to church or even down to Elyse`s house. But my shoes are great and i haven`t had any blisters. We ate Mondongo. That is the cow stomach. It wasn`t to bad. It was really chewy. I didn`t get sick from it. I haven`t gotten sick at all so far. We have a really good investigator. It was a part member family the whole family is members but the dad isn`t. He was an alcoholic and they were about to separate. But he told us that he would stop drinking and be baptized and he hasn`t had a drink since then. It was really cool because we saved a marriage and he is going to be baptized. We didn`t have a baptism this last week but we have two planned por el sabado que viene. Josè y Fabio. I love speaking Spanish it is so much fun. We have an hour to an hour and a half to do email. I hope that Aaron does well in his interviews. That is crazy to think that he is almost done with school. I hope everything is going great back home. I think of you all and pray for you all. Les amo muchisimo. Me encanta ser misionero. Estoy tan agradecido por la oportunidad estar aquì en Uruguay y servir la gente aquì. Tambièn estoy muy agradecido por ustedes por sus apoya para mi. Tengan una buena semana. Choa Elder Tate

Hola

Hey, How is everyone doing this week? This week was amazing we had our sector conference and the zones of Artigas and Rivera came down to Tacuarembó. A member of the area presidecy was there, his name is Elder Aidukaitis. It was so good. He talked about what we need to do to double our baptisms what President Hinkley said like 10 years ago. It was awesome when he bore is testimony at the end the spirit was so strong it was unreal. Then that night we went out to work at like 4:30 and in 4 and a half hours we found 13 people. He said that we should have a baptism every weekend and we have 1 planed for this coming Saturday or Sunday and then we will have 3 the week after that. We are working really hard and we are having a lot of fun. Yesterday we had the baptism of Irma Diaz it went really well. My spanish is getting a lot better. I can understand all of it if the people speak clearly. It is really cool to speak another language. Yes I got 2 packages last Thursday one from Elyse and the other from Aaron and Jodi. They were great it was like christmas. Montevideo is like 5 and a half hours away. The weather here is really crazy. We have had some rain but not a ton. The weather changes daily yesterday was great sunny and warm and today is cloudy and cold i never know what it is going to be like. The parents of my companion are leaving like the 2nd of October but make sure you get whatever you are sending down to them before the 30th of September. The only thing that i think i need is the cords for my camera so i can send you pictures. The homecoming of my companion is on the 19th of October. I don´t know what time his church starts at but that is the date. Everything is going great down here. We eat really good the members take really good care of us they are amazing. I´m glad everything is going great back home i´ll write you next week. Hey i forgot to tell you that i milked a cow for one of the members in the ward it was really fun. If you had to do that everyday your forearms would be so strong. Chao. Elder Tate

Howdy from Uruguay

Hola, How is everyone doing this week? Last week went by so fast. I went on divisions with the zone leader and the district leader in one week it was really fun. When I was with Elder Heilpern we thought we were going to get attacked by a dog but then it hit the end of the chain. I was so scared my heart was pounding so fast. Afterwards I looked at him and said we were about to have a race not between us and the dog but between me and you. It was really funny I’m pretty sure that I could have out run him. This last week has had all different temperatures. Tuesday was really hot and humid, Wednesday was a little bit colder but not bad same thing on Thursday, but Friday was the coldest day in Uruguay out of all the winter. It was so cold. I had my thermal garments and a sweater and my big coat and it was still pretty cold. I love my sleeping bag it is amazing. That is cool that Utah is dong so good in football and that Dad’s golf team is doing so good. This week we had 7 investigators in church but that family we are teaching didn’t come. We are going to have a baptism on the 20th of September. We have our first sector conference this week and one of the members of the area presidency is coming it will be a lot of fun. We have a busy week coming up this week it will be a lot of fun. My shoes are great I haven’t gotten any blisters yet. I hope everything with your neighbors works out alright. If not have Taylor calls his friends and they could try to relive the glory days. Tell Taylor congratulations on getting his hunters safety that is just 7 more duck dad and I will get to kill in 2 years. I hope everything goes great this week and you all have a lot of fun. I’m doing great down here in Tacuarembó it is a lot of fun. Thanks for all the love and support from everyone. Chao Elder Tate

September 1st 2008

Hey hope everything went good this last week i`m doing great here in Uruguay. We had an awesome week this week it was so much fun. We found 23 new investigators this week it was amazing everyone would listen to us and they wanted us to come back. The food is really good we have eaten milanesa ( chicken fried steak) it was good. Canalones, they were so good probably my favorite thing. They are tortillas with meat and some other stuff in them covered in a sauce they are really good. On Thursday it rained so hard. But that didn`t stop us we went out and worked all day and by the end of the day i was soaked. I could have walked through a river 2 or 3 feet deep and i wouldn`t have gotten any more wet. It was so much fun. I wore my boots and at the end of the day i dumped the water out of them it was really funny i have some pictures. I hope dad had a good birthday 50 years old WOW! That is sad about Grandpa Kirk i hope he isn`t in to much pain i feel really bad. GO UTES! Do they look good this year? The language is coming along really well when we have a lesson planned out i teach like 40 percent of it. We walk so much here it really is amazing i wish i had one of those things that counts your steps it would be an unreal number for one day. My shoes on the other hand are great and i haven`t had any problems with them. The roof on our house is made of the same stuff that we had on the wood shed before we put up the wood, that tin stuff. So when it rains at night we hear it and it poured the other night i couldn`t believe how loud it was. I`m doing really good here and i have adapted great i just wish i was fluent in Spanish. I love the mission it is really fun. Thanks for all the love and support from everyone back home. Tell everyone i love them and i`m doing great. Elder Tate ( TawTay) Chao

First Letter from Uruguay

Hey how is everyone doing? Everything is going great down here it is amazing. I love it. Ok so i am going to tell you about what happened this week. We arrived here and it was a really nice day. We got our bags and went out and met some missionaries and President Peterson and his wife they are really nice and yes they are both tall. We went back to the house and had lunch it was really good. We went to the temple and i did it in spanish it was really cool. Then we had dinner and went to bed. The next day we had to do this physical type thing we had to do it in order to get our visas. Then we met our companions. My companion is Elder Hansen from alpine Utah. He is awesome. This is his last change here. That night we took a bus to Tacuarembó that is where i am serving. The people are really nice. We have a lady named Miriam Sosa that does our laundry and is really a nice lady. So I had my first baptism yesterday. Noelia Mariana Olivera Abdo she is 13 years old it was amazing. She chose me to baptize her it was amazing. My first baptism was before my first week it was such an amazing experience. My Spanish is OK i can understand a little but i can say a lot. The people are amazed with my Spanish. The food down here is really good we eat with the members almost everyday they are really nice to the Elders. I had to give like a 3 minute talk in church yesterday. I just said who i was were i was from and bore my testimony. I went really good. I love it down here it is really a lot of fun. I don´t know if i answered all the questions but i´ll make sure i get them next week. I really enjoyed talking with all of you it was really fun. No it didn´t make me home sick. Oh Happy Birthday Dad i can´t believe that you are 50 years old. I love you all and have a good day. Chao

First Picture of Elder Tate in Uruguay!!!

Taylor arrived in Uruguay on Tuesday and this is the first picture we have gotten. Because of the hurricane that was happening near Florida two of his flights were delayed about an hour so instead of getting to Uruguay at 9:20 in the morning he didn't get there until a little after 11:00. Taylor was able to call during his layovers. It was so great to hear his voice! He told Carolee that on the way up to the MTC the bus they were on about got in a wreck. A lady didn't see the bus and she came within inches of hitting them. The power of prayer!! The first time I talked to him he recited the first vision to me in Spanish. It was so cool, he didn't hesitate at all and to me it sounded amazing. I just loved to hear his voice! He was very excited to go experience life out of the United States and to begin the work that he has prepared to do. We won't get another letter until Monday (his P-Day). I know that he is doing awesome and that he is enjoying life. I am so proud at his accomplishments already. I love ya Tay!!

Last P-day in the MTC

We got our flight plans last saturday and we leave the MTC at 8:00 am on monday I'm so excited but nervous at the same time. It really is unreal that the time has gone by this fast. I can't believe that the first part of my mission is over it is so crazy. We fly American Airlines all the way to Uruguay. We leave SLC at 11:50 and we fly to Dallas Ft Worth flight number 1784. Then we leave Dallas at 5:30 and fly to Miami flight number 1046. Then we leave Miami at 11:15 and fly all night to Uruguay flight number 989 we arrive in Uruguay at 9:05. We are all really excited to go. I think i'm ok with contact solution they last me over two months and i have 5 of them so i'll be ok for a while. I can buy a calling card here at the MTC they are really cheap. we get a 40% of anything in the store so i'm alright. I'll look for Ryan's friend there are like 250-350 new missionaries each week so i probably wont see him but i'll look for him. Some things that you could send me before i go are Q-tips and some more of those placker things the dental floss i'm almost out and i love those things. So i'll probably call at like 10:00 or a little later. I don't know how everything will work out but it will be around that time. I don't know if Elyse wants me to call her on her cell phone or what so maybe write me a letter today so i know the plans. If you send me anything send it no later than Thursday unless you do the sameday MTC thing at the UPS store. You could do that in Friday. everything is going great here at the MTC. I hope you all have a great week and i can't wait to talk to you all on Monday talk to ya then. Adios Elder Taylor Tate.

Only one more p-day after this

Hola mi familia. It sounds like you had a fun time in Las Vegas. Thanks for the Italian Crock-Pot Chicken it was so good. I took it into the cafeteria and heated it up for dinner the night I got it, it was so good. The weeks go by so fast here at the MTC if they go by this fast in Uruguay my whole mission will fly by. I think the scripture you could put on my plaque would be D&C 90:10 I think it is the one about everyone will hear the fulness of the gospel in there own language. If you could fill my prescriptions that would be nice. We don't have our travel plans yet but we should get them tomorrow or Friday. We are all excited. I think I'm fine with all my supplies so I don't need anything. The journal writing is fine. I write a least 4 times a week. I don't write every night because they would all sound the same. As Taylor Poore would say "same crap different day" but its not crap. I would write I got up and got ready, ate food went to class, ate more food, went to class again, ant even more food, and more class. It is going good though. It is crazy to think that in two weeks from right now I will probably be in Uruguay and i wont be speaking English. That is weird. The language is coming along fine. I can understand almost everything that our teachers say and I can speak it pretty good also. But not nearly good enough. I forgot to tell you Elder Fullmer is in my zone. His name is Zac Fullmer. I don't know exactly how he is related to Larry but he is. I love learning Spanish it really is a lot of fun. sometimes the days are really long and you do the same things everyday so they can get boring sometimes. But I really do love it here. I love you all and I'll talk to you in less than two weeks. Keep on working hard it will all pay off in the end. Adios.

What an amazing individual

I want to express my appreciation to Taylor and the wonderful individual he is. He has such a strong testimony of the gospel and it is so neat to watch that testimony continue to grow while he is serving the Lord. I have no doubt that he will put his all into his mission and that he will be very successful in whatever comes his way. I love that attribute of Taylor, no matter what he will find a way to get something done with 100% effort. He is such a hard worker. It is no surprise at how wonderful he has already done in the MTC. He is working so hard to learn the language the best he can and he is studying hard. I know that those elders that he serves with look to him as an example because of the kind of person he is. The people in Uruguay better watch out, they are going to have one heck of a missionary coming. They are so lucky! He is the greatest blessing in my life! I love ya Tay.

July 30th Letter

How is eveyone doing? Things are going great here at the MTC. I have seen Elder Klc multiple times we have the same lunch. It is fun to talk to him i haven't seen him for along time he seems to be doing really good. The lesson last week went really good it is really amazing that we can teach a lesson in spanish in only 5 weeks we are really blessed with the gift of tonges. I got another hair cut today this was my second one. They don't let us cut our own hair here at the MTC but we can in the mission field. They leave it to long on the top though. I guess it is okay. There were 10 Elders in our district and two of them went to the DR and the rest of us are going to Uruguay. It will be really fun I'm really excited. The language is coming along really well. I can understand almost everything that our teachers say and can usually respond in spanish but they don't talk as fast as they will down in Uruguay. I think I'll be able to speak a little when i get down there. Yes it is true that i run 3 miles probably 4 times a week it feels good after I'm done. So Dad I only weigh 203 on the scale here at the MTC so i have actually lost 5-6 pounds. I also do 160 push-ups evey other day and 300 sit-ups on the days that I don't do push-ups. All the packages I have got have been really good. I share with all the Elders in my district so they are thankful also. That is cool that everyone is a granola now. Make sure you call Alison a granola everytime she wears her keens. They are really comfortable. I hope you have a lot of fun down in Las Vegas and it isn't to hot. Make sure Zoe can still say Tay Tay. I love you all so much and keep up the good work. I miss you but i love being here on the mission it has really strenghtened my testimony of the church. I know that I am doing the right thing. Talk to ya next week I love you all. Yo les amo. Elder Tate

July 23rd 2008

So i just wrote a long e-mail and it just disappeared. So I don't have much time but I'll try to get everything back in. The MTC is going great and the Spanish is coming along well. Two days out of the last week i only spoke Spanish no English it was really hard but it helped a lot. We have to teach tonight in Spanish I'll tell you how that goes in the next letter. I have seen Elder Wadsworth and Sister Shulte here they are both doing really good. I got the two packages that you sent thanks. The sweater fits me great. My companion is doing great we get along really good. I'm glad he isn't like Aaron's first companion. You need to go golfing with dad so he has someone to go with. He would really enjoy it. You could send gloves and a scarf if you want i don't know if I'll need it right when i get there because it will almost be Spring. Yeah you could send me that Uruguay shirt if you want i would like that. Sounds like you were pretty lucky with the storm that sounds like it was pretty fun. Tell Alison i didn't get to read her e-mail but i will next week and I'll write her. We had a great devotional last night Gene R. Cook spoke it was awesome. I don't have much more time sorry it was rushed but I love you all and I'm doing great don't worry about me. keep on having fun. Mom, please fix my pants for me the pant leg came unhemmed. Thank you i love you all. Thanks for all the lave and support that you have given me I'll talk to you next week. Adios.

July 16th 2008

Hola mi Familia. I can't believe that the water has gone up that much at Lake Powell that is amazing. I hope you had a fun time down there. Everything is going great here at the MTC. We haven't gone to the temple for the last two weeks because it is closed for cleaning and today our district had the assignment to clean. I have never cleaned so many lockers before it was fun though. I have a favor to ask I know why the ties at that store at South Towne Mall are so cheap it is because they are cheap ties. 3 of them are starting to fall apart. I'm going to ship home a pair of my pants they came unstiched in one of the legs i'll send them home this week or next. If the tie matches Brown or Black it will work thanks. > > Answers Yeah you can send that notebook I could use it. I already have my suit hanger. You take you dork dot off the night you get here. There were 18 Elders going to the Dominican Republic but they were the only ones in our mission. Our teaching went well last week we teach lesson two tonight on the plan of salvation but next week we have to teach in spanish and from then on out that is the only language we will teach in. I have got letters from Aaron and Jodi, Liz has sent me two dear elders, and i got one from Brother Garcia I think that is all. The perfect push-ups are great i love them i do 160 push-ups every other night. I'm glad that everything is going great back at home i'm having a lot of fun. I can't believe that it has already been 4 weeks wow! I saw the new missionaries coming in today and it seemed like it was just yesterday that i was being dropped off. I met 4 missionaries going to the Osorno Chile misson they are all excited. I love you all and can't wait to here back from you. Have a good week I love you all.

July 8th ***2nd Letter

Sorry about last week I typed dad's email in wrong so I forwarded it again today, I didn't just send you a one line email. That was what I forgot to send in the original email so i just hurried and sent it that wasn't the main one. Things are going good here at the MTC the food is good but I think after a while I will get sick of it. They have enough of a variety that you can usually get something that is good. The laundry is going fine i never did find my original laundry bag. All the elders in my room are going to Uruguay there are 8 of us going down there. Yes I met Elder Todd it isn't Hunter though it is Landon, Todd Hunter is his younger brother. Our service assignment is to clean one of the residence halls it is ok sometimes the toilets are really gross but it isn't to bad. I Think i have received everything that you have sent. I'll usually get the packages around 5 o'clock. I have to tell you about Sunday. First i finished the Book of Mormon second I said the sacrament prayer in Spanish third i bore my testimony in Spanish and last i was made district leader. So i have to pick up every ones mail and go to a couple extra meetings on Sunday. I was pretty excited. I love going to the referral center i got to talk to another lady that wants the missionaries to come and teach her i hope the missionary work in the field will be that easy. I have to teach the 1st lesson in Spanish tomorrow we will see how that goes. The language is coming along i study hard and try to speak it as much as i can so i speak good Spanglish. sorry about last week it wont happen again. I love you all hope you had a fun time at Lake Powell I'm doing great don't worry I'll write you next week talk to ya then Goodbye. Elder Taylor Tate

July 8th Letter

Hey how is the family doing? I'm so jealous you got to go to the concert. The Spanish is going great i haven't said a prayer in English since the 19th of June we learned how to pray and bear our testimonies in Spanish the first day we had class. It sounds like you had a fun experience with the cops i bet that was fun. Yes we do get to nap on Sunday it is only for a half hour though. I never did find my laundry bag but that's OK i have a new one. We have 10 elders in our district and 8 of us are going to Uruguay and the other two are going to the Dominican Republic to the Antivillos mission. They lived in Chile with the Jones I met them when we were down there. The other two missionaries in our room Elder Hughes from Boise Idaho and Elder Cone from Washington they are pretty funny we have a lot of fun. We go to the temple ever Wednesday in the morning. Our service assignment is to clean one of the residence halls. It isn't to bad. I think we get to watch them (fireworks) but we aren't going down there I'm not sure though. I have got all the packages so far thanks for sending them. I'm not sure what kind of memory card it is but I'll send that information in the letter to Elyse so just ask her in a couple of days. Has Ali and Taylor moved in yet? You need to send me a picture of my room when they do and a picture of there new car. I miss you all but I'm doing great i have really enjoyed the MTC so far. It is nice to know that everything is going good at home so i don't worry to much. I love you guys and hope you are all doing great. Tell dad thanks for the letter and I will kill more ducks than he will when i get back. Can't wait to hear from you again I'll write you next week. Elder Taylor Tate

Hi Mom and Dad.

How are you guys? My P-Day is today (Wednesday). I can only write on P-Day. My companion is Elder Tross he is from Maryland. We don't have much in common but we get along great. I have seen Elder Burton and Elder Morris (from High school). I sleep good at night, I'm usually pretty tired and I sleep on the top bunk. The first days were just meetings. We room with Elder Cone and Elder Hughes they're fun. We get up at 6:30 and have to be to breakfast by 7:00. All our meals are 45 minutes long so from 7:45-11:30 is class with Hermana Willardson. Then lunch at 11:30. Class from 12:15-4:30, then dinner. 5:15-9:00 we have personal study, companion study and language study. We are in bed by 10:30. We had a devotional on Tuesday and Elder Perry, Elder Scott, Elder Holland, Elder Hales and Elder Christofferson were there. It was awesome. Elder Hales spoke on the Atonement. All is going well here. I love you guys and miss you. Don't worry about me, have fun and be the best you can.

Love,

Elder Taylor Tate enters the MTC

Elder Taylor Tate entered the MTC on June 18th at 1:00. He had a big smile on his face and was excited and ready to begin his mission.

Taylor's Farewell

Taylor spoke on June 8th 2008. The topic that he was given was based on the scriptures found in Mosiah 18: 8-10, which outlines the importance of baptism. He did a wonderful job, the spirit was so strong! Below are some pictures from the get together afterwards at the Tate residence.
